Trackball users beware! (More beta blockers?)

I certainly find a trackball nearly impossible to use without
being able to define a drag lock button, yet drag lock appears
to be impossible to achieve in rawhide:

I can't make it work the old way or the new way :-(.

I guess I could painstakingly craft a giant xmodmap file
to fix the scrambled keycodes in the "old way" with evdev
turned off, but I haven't yet got quite that desperate.

I'd certainly love to have these as beta blockers, or
at least final release blockers.
