Re: [K12OSN] Adding a second processor

It has to match in voltage (2.8, 3.3, 3.5, 5, 7 volt) and bus clock (100 or 133 mhz) rate. Other than that, you should be fine.

Be careful, however, in that many machines (ProLiants?) require a load/ballast resistor, and these can be hard to come by.

Greetings,
I want to add a second PII 350Mhz to an existing Compaq Proliant 1600 as a second test server for k12ltsp stuff, it loads RedHat 7.2 just fine. Compaq still wants a lot of money for this processor upgrade if I purchase it from them, Ebay $24.99, BUT on to the questions...

The current processor is a Slot1 Pentium II 350Mhz Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 1.

Does my second processor need to match these specs exactly or do all PII 350's have the above specs ? Any do's and don't's on adding a second CPU
would also be helpful. The system is a hybrid EISA/PCI system, will it "auto"
detect a second processor ? Any heads up on power regulation ?

Thanks,
