John:

I'm going to be at the Noncommercial Computer Refurbishers Summit in
Chicago on September 17 and 18. I'm setting up a K12LTSP 10-user network
for use by the participants for email checking and web surfing, and then I
have a 90-minute demo lab where I am installing LTSP. Information on the
conference is at http://www.pcsforschools.org/ncrs/index.html.

I will be setting up the lab for the conference on the 16th, but would also
be willing to come to Chicago a day early (the 15th) and demonstrate
K12LTSP to anyone on the board at the homeless shelter--in return for a
night at a hotel somewhere close and a chance to brainstorm this idea! I
was on the board of a local homeless shelter here, and have had the same
thought of helping install K12LTSP in homeless shelters, or
battered-women's shelters, etc. Would love to be a part of that effort.

With regard to the issues of learning Linux, there is plenty of material on
the web related to this, but do check out
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7418. Also, look at the
information on Brazil's telecenters in Sao Paulo, where they server some
400,000 of the city's poorest with a version of LTSP.

I am wanting to use K12LTSP in a smaller lab for use with homeless adults.
I need some help explaining to the social worker how K12LTSP works and what
it looks like. Can anyone point me toward a resource for an intro to
K12LTSP presentation that would include some screenshots? I want her to be
able to hear from outside sources that there are benefits to using K12LTSP.
I also want to alleviate her concerns that having the men learn to use
linux is pointless and less usable than learning windows basics.

TIA for any help!
