No, it is NOT fixed.

SMP kernel (even newest one) 2.4 series from update will hang my 
DualXeon wihtin half of day.  With self-compiled 2.6 kernel I have 1 
month uptime (and restarted for kernel update :)

It heavily depends from system configuration. Some SMP macines hang, 
some of them not.
