I've mentioned this before, but I'll put another plug in for
backuppc.  It is no harder to set up than an ad-hoc rsync
scheme, can actually used rsync (or tar, or smb) to do
the work so it is just as efficient, and because of its
very efficient compression/linking storage format you
can keep weeks/months of history around to roll back
through a simple web browser interface.
