And this major upgrade in particular.  Don't do it.  There's a new
version of python, which, if you're using yum, means that half-way
through the upgrade it can't find any of it modules any more and dies
leaving things half installed.  If that weren't enough, a number of
things expect to be running on a 2.6 kernel and will behave . . . oddly
if they aren't.  While it is technically possible to do the update it is
far more likely to result in an unbootable computer.
