Re: [K12OSN] Cant get server to find floppy drive

Hi,

First do a  "chmod 777 /mnt/floppy"
then try your mount "mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy"

The "errors" you're getting are OK
1) it's just that your CDROM is read only - normal
2) but the floppy is also read only - not usual unless it's write protected
3) superblock would imply that there's a problem with the floppy .... try a freshly formatted floppy disk from a Windows machine. It could also be that the floppy was not formatted under Windows ....

Hi,

Just cd to mnt and type mkdir floppy then check the permissions on /mnt/floppy.
However it is strange that yuo don't already have that directory....

Okay, New error message. Is the permissions correct on the floppy directory? Output below:

[root server mnt]# mkdir floppy

[root server mnt]# ls -al

total 16

drwxr-xr-x   4 root root 4096 Oct 11 17:11 .

drwxr-xr-x  22 root root 4096 Oct  9 20:55 ..

drwxr-xr-x   2 root root 4096 Oct  7 20:43 cdrom

drwxr-xr-x   2 root root 4096 Oct 11 17:11 floppy

[root server mnt]# mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

mount: /dev/fd0: can't read superblock
