[K12OSN] smb/ldap BDC

I've tried manydifferent directions to make a Backup Domain Controller. 
Does anyone have any pointers?
I have copied the sid from the pdc with net rpc getsid. I've run

ssh ldap1.mylan.net slapcat | su ldap -c 'slapadd -c; slapindex'

to grab the slapcat output to the bdc.I setup the slapd.conf file on the 
pdc and the bdc. All the changes are going into the replica folder, but 
do not seem to get to the bdc.
Any help appreciated.
