Hello,

Undoubtably some of you folks have dealt with this issue, so I thought
I'd ask.

Our school is expanding to 2 campuses for a few months while
construction on a new building is finished. At our original campus, we
have a k12ltsp server with samba on it where all files are stored. The
Internet connection is a cable modem Internet connection with a 3Mbps
downstream and 256Kbps upstream. K-4 grades are in building one, 5-8 in
building 2.

The teachers want to be able to access files in building2, where the
Internet connection comes through a wireless ISP, with 3Mbps downstream,
and unknown upstream. We are also sharing this connection with other
tenants in the building, so we don't want to swamp the connection. The
students from building 2 will also visit building 1 at times to use the
computer lab.

Can anyone see an solution? I don't think bandwidth constraints on the
upstream ISP will allow any type of remote access to the files, so my
initial idea was to set up another samba/k12ltsp server in building 2,
and use rsync to sync the files at some regular interval. Perhaps sync
files every 5 minutes from building 2 to building 1 during the day, and
every night sync back the other way. I'm a little concerned about
getting the scripts right to prevent data loss.

Am I on the right track? Budget is very much a concern because all
reserve are going to wire the new building.

I hope I described this clearly enough, I'd be glad to clarify if not.

Thanks,
Ben Nickell
