WARNING: Aplogies - this mail will probably be in html because I have to
mail
directly from Hotmail because my outbox is broken .... but that's the
subject of
my next post :^(. Anyway, here is the posting:

Just installed k12ltsp 4.2.0. The problem I found was that from the first
time
I asked Synaptic to do dist-upgrade it wanted to remove 28 packages
including such gems and essentials as k12ltsp-core, k12ltsp-utils, yum,
php, etc. Anyone else seen this problem? Any pointers to solving it?

I also tried it from the command line with apt-get dist-upgrade and it
reported the same listing of upgrades and removals, so it would appear
that it's not a Synaptic problem 8-(. Further info: I added a new
repository to the standard list, but even when I deactivated that (just
in case) and reloaded the package headers it gave the same outcome.

I don't know if it has any bearing on the problem, but if it helps the
background is that version 4.2.0 is on a machine that will only have four
clients some of the time and at all other times will be a stand-alone
workstation. For that reason, I set out to add a few personal
favourites above what a server install would require and fired up
Synaptic to do some installs & upgrades. When I realised I was going a
bit over the top with installs I wiped all my marked packages and
started again aiming to simply do dist-upgrade. Neither Synaptic or apt
on the command line seems to have recovered from that multi-choice of
packages to install even though I have unmaked them several times.

Regards, Gavin
