[K12OSN] wireless package -- nfs server not responding

I'm using the wireless package on a laptop, but using
pcmcia wired ethernet. On bootup, the card's name
flashes by on the screen, so I assume it is recognized
and compatible. Maybe I shouldn't assume that.
Anyway, booting ceases after the following messages
(they may not be exact, as they are from my memory):

doing pivot_root
nfs server not responding, still trying
nfs server not responding, still trying

Somewhere in there it correctly identifies the IP
address of the NFS server, which is the same as my
main ltsp server.

This server works properly when booting a desktop PC
thin client, so I'm pretty sure it's ok. I think the
problem is either

1) settings specific to the wireless package
or
2) hardware conflicts

Any ideas? The pcmcia ethernet card is a Xircom
something (sorry I don't have the exact model #). It
is 10/100 base.
