Scott,
We have had about 20 concurrent oo hits on a server without a hitch. We
are using 4.2.1 (CentOS). I had to come up with a work around to install
it so the setup and defaults were done before the students logged on.

Is OpenOffice going through the initial setup routine? If so that will
really be slow the first time, especially if everyone is doing at the
exact-same-time.

Your probem sound's like Disk IO to me. Can you tell us a little about
your server. Is it raid? if so. I'm currious... what are the results of
say 5 concurrent.

FWIW: I just did a Edubuntu install on my home test "server". It was
noticably slower than K12 4.4.1 I did a reinstall of Edubuntu with this
minor difference. I moved the swap over to a seperate drive from / It
really helped speed things up.

John
