The server is okay for one/two clients. What could be the problem?

Before you run the OO/Firefox does the client behave okay without any
application launch? Have you set up swap partition on server? Which
distro you are using? K12 4or 5 should have set up swap automatically
if you used default partitioning.

I would launch top or system monitor and see what comes up on launch
of OO/Firefox.
