I give it a good solid 80% chance that I'll have usable (but still very beta)
ISO images uploaded in the next 12 hours. I just worked through one of the
show-stoppers[1] and am banging on another right now.
To give instructions on the hacks I did earlier, I'd have to do a fresh
install and try to repeat the processes - which would take me an hour or
two. I think it is a better use of my time getting out a decent set of
install disks ;-)

[1] Thanks Shahms, your guess was right. The package-order generation utility
does appear to treat packages with "kernel" in their name differently.
Renaming ltsp_i386-kernel to ltsp_i386-boot made the weirdness go away.
