Mel,
Make sure that you have all of the information needed in krb.conf and
that it is correct. Make sure your clocks are approximate (usually
setting up NTP on Linux to go to your domain controller solves any
timing issues). Also, are you trying to use authentication against a
Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Server?
