I have a french article there...
You may suscribe to a SIP account then use a soft called www.ekiga.org
and have a number (www.freephonie.net)
I guess you can set up an answer only machine then...
If you are looking against a choice with more advanced configuration
take a look at www.asterisk.org
then you can make menu to the users...

You have at least one book on asterisk in shop...
and a live cd this week on

(I didn't have the time to test it yet... not my priority...)
