both Dell and HP are now offering laptops with only linux operating
systems preinstalled..  haven't checked Dell prices but HP gives a $100
credit on the price.  not sure which versions but I think it is Ubuntu in
Dell and Suse in HP.

I have been using Compaq for years with no problems, exclusively linux,
red hat and Mepis installed.
