Tom,

 To verify that your Mplayer is playing different versions of Quicktime
files go here and test to make sure your player has codecs for all the QT
file formats:

If these all work and your program launches ok from the console but not on
terminals I would guess you need to create a seperate launcher on the
desktop to start the program for EACH user at the desktop not from the
Wine Start menu,The symlinks must be not cooperating.
Scratch head a little more?
