[K12OSN] OT: Help adding a .diff to mozilla source

I have been trying to find a way to prevent Firefox from caching pixmaps to X, which can
in turn use up all available memory on a thin client and cause it to freeze.  I have
filed this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395260 under mozilla and one
under ubuntu to try and get this resolved.  The last post to bug 395260 referred me to
bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296818 (very old) which has appeared to
result in a possible fix.  The fix is this .diff file:

http://primates.ximian.com/~federico/misc/moz-images-20070907.diff

I assume I need to download the firefox source code from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.6/source and then somehow
patch the source with the .diff file.

I have tried a few things but just get errors.  Could anyone tell me how to do this?
