Yes, I forgot to check this, so I'll do it before I re-send.

I meant to mention that I checked into this and remembered why I did
it.  If we create a thread and pass in broker memory, then the memory
gets free()'d when the current operation returns, which means the
thread starts working, but later has a pointer to free()'d memory and
crashes.
