I queried the file package and I had the wrong one for my operating
system.

No problem. What do you mean "this didn't work" ? The package 'file'
cannot be installed ? Or is it installed but you still do not have that
lib file ? If it is installed, what is the output of "rpm -ql file" ?
Btw, what is your server's version ?
