vgrename(8) is able to address that.

Please give it a try and tell me if it works.

Please try the LVM_DIR_PREFIX change.

More or less.

/proc/* is for programs to parse the contained information.

Therfore its not primarily addressing a real name clash problem
but the answer to the request for easy parsing.
