I have not been able to reproduce the problem.  Based on your explanation
on what ext2resize does, it seems highly unlikely that that is causing
problems.

The system I'm using used to be a Solaris based configuration.  I suspect
that the problems I've had are related to partition and disk info
left-over from Solaris.  After clearing the tables by using dd
if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd<x> I've not had any problems.

Other then GNU parted which is having problems with the /dev/sda disk,
which still has the old Sun tables on it.
