Re: [linux-lvm] Symbol not found when pvcreating...

David,

looks like a messy installation :-(

Did you try to remove and completely reinstall LVM based on a clean
compile/build run of the tools and library?

No.

That's just needed for the generic disk interface.
It doesn't make any sense to create a partition table on a logical volume.

You could get the virtual geometry (which has nothing to do with the
underlying physical device(s)) of a logical volume though by doing
a block ioctl on its device like:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <linux/hdreg.h>

int main ( int argc, char **argv) {
   int fd;
   struct hd_geometry hd;

   if ( ( fd = open ( argv[1], O_RDONLY)) == -1) return 1;

   ioctl ( fd, HDIO_GETGEO, &hd);
   close ( fd);
   printf ( "heads    : %d\n", hd.heads);
   printf ( "sectors  : %d\n", hd.sectors);
   printf ( "cylinders: %d\n", hd.cylinders);
   printf ( "start    : %d\n", hd.start);

   return 0;
}
