There never has been a 2TB limit on Volume Groups (was in the PT range even
with the 2TB block device size maximum in Linux 2.4).

In LVM1 LVs could have as much as ~2^16 Logical Extents maximum.
That's why you needed larger extent sizes there to be able to have larger LVs.
FYI: recent LVM1 creates VGs with a default PE size of 32MB which enable
you to have LVs up to 2TB in size.

In LVM2, if you convert existing LVM1 format VGs to LVM2 format
(using vgconvert) or create new LVM2 formated VGs, there's no 2TB constraint
on LVs any longer but the OS limit for the block device size (which is 2TB).

Use 2.6 in case you want to have >2TB LVs.
