RE: Challenges whilst updating from rhel4.8 to rhel4.9

I find it weird that you could have a system in that state with the dependencies if you have it connected to RHN and have only used Redhat-provided updates.

For example, do you have glibc-kernheaders installed?
If not, install it and see if the first dependency complaint goes away.

There is no magic command AFAIK to fix this, you need to solve each dependency manually.

I ran the command, <up2date -uf>.

Subject: Re: Challenges whilst updating from rhel4.8 to rhel4.9

I am getting the message below whilst attempting to upgrade my OS from
rhel4.8 to rhel4.9. Any ideas how I can resolve this as I can’t find the required dependencies from previous OS DVDs.

unresolvable chain of dependencies:

glibc-headers  2.3.4-2.57                requires kernel-headers
glibc-headers-2.3.4-2.57                 requires kernel-headers >= 2.2.1 gnome-volume-manager  1.1.0-9            requires libgconf-2.so.4 gnome-volume-manager  1.1.0-9            requires libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 gnome-volume-manager  1.1.0-9            requires libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 gnome-volume-manager  1.1.0-9            requires libgnomevfs-2.so.0 gnome-volume-manager  1.1.0-9            requires libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 kdebase  3.3.1-13.el4_8.1                requires libqt-mt.so.3

Can you tell the exact command you used to update?
