Yes, that is true when you use an binary rpm package (the ones without the
src part in the name, for example qt-1.42-3rh51.i386.rpm is a binary
package for i386 and that is ready for instalation usin rpm -ivh or better
rpm -Uvh qt-1.42-3rh51.i386.rpm, that uninstall all the older packages
keeping the configurations files that you used, also it works even when
you did not have any old packages) the files with the src part are sources
files, so, qt-1.42-3rh51.src.rpm is a source files and it need to be
compiled.

If you whant what you instaled use the -ql flag like this
rpm -ql qt-1.42-3rh51

or all the files that you have 
rpm -qa
