Re: Linksys Wireless PCMCIA network card.

This did it, have to remove and re-insert the card whenever I boot. This is a minor problem however.

Thanks

Remove the card and reinstall it. The PCMCIA should handle this and load
the correct driver.

ifconfig does not show any IP bound to wlan0, and if I unplug eth0, I can not get out anywhere.

Actually, this is due to wlan0 trying to be activated prior to

PCMCIA

services being started. I get it every time I boot up (and it

doesn't

affect my ability to connect). I'm assuming you've tried to connect and cannot... If you haven't,

give

it a try. When I setup mine, I worked on configuration stuff for

about

an hour without realizing that I was already connected!

It looks like I am very close on the wireless card working, I am

now

getting steady lights on the card which is more than I was getting before. HOwever, now on boot I get an error

Starting WLAN devices: wlan1-ng: no such device
Failed to enable thie device exitcode 1

seems to have something to do with the /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts

file.

HOwever I don't see any errors in it, I wonder if someone might

send

me a copy of theirs that has this Linksys PCMCIA 2.5 card up and

running

1. /etc/wlan.conf

Basically, open this file up in your editor and look for a line

that

says DesiredSSID="xxxxxxx". Change whatever the default is

between the

quotes to your SSID, which is most likely "linksys"

2. /etc/modules.conf

Add the following line to the end of the file

alias wlan0 prism2_cs

3. /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts

Basically do the same thing you did in item 1 above concerning

SSID

At this point, restart the pcmcia service and then insert the

card...

If you are still having some difficulty after this, go ahead and

join

the linux-wlan mailing list that I mentioned to you earlier. Post

a

message there and you will probably get some better help than what

I've

been able to provide.

I'm also going to forward a couple of emails to you that came

through on

the list that went step by step through a similar situation and

you may

find it helpful. I'm going to forward those directly to you

instead of

through this list.....

OK, got to the point of installing all three mod's, readme says

the

documentation needed to modify conf files is provided in kernel-wlan-ng-doc. I have installed all 3 prm's and done a

for this file, with no luck.

any Idea where it is?
