Re: ide controller card

Ian,
I'm using a Promise Ultra100 TX2 controller card on my RH 7.0 box.
I couldn't get the linux driver available from Promise to work so I emailed
support and they sent me a work around that involved editing /etc/inittab.
The first card I bought failed at about 3 months. I bought another and RMA'd
the first card. The second card has been running for 3 months with no
problems. I went with Promise because of reputation and Linux support but
was a bit dissapointed with the 3 month failure.
The Promise controller card performance is very good. I popped it into a
Windows box and benchmarked it with HDTach and saw a >40% increase in
performance when compared to an AMD 750 northbridge and VIA 656A southbridge
combo chipset on a FIC SD-11 MB.
I'm not sure about power requirements. I have a 300W ps in the linux box
with the Promise controller.
