Just a guess - but the errors I see in your X logs suggest for one thing
(at least) that your _monitor_ settings are incorrect. I know very
little about your SIS chipset, but I would have thought that it would at
least function using the VESA driver (or the VGA one)
what are your HorizSync and VertRefresh Settings in /etc/X11/XF86Config?
here are some generic settings that may be of use:
(all culled from redhat-config-xfree86)
Max Resolution HorizSync VertRefresh
640x480 31.5 50-61
800x600 31.5-35.1 50-61
1024x768 31.5-57.0 50-70
1280x1024 31.5-79.0 50-90
1400x1050 31.5-90 50-90
1600x1200 31.5-94.0 50-90
according to redhat-config-xfree86 the SiS 650 chipset is fine and
should work
the line in your config file should read (it's in a Device section)
Driver "sis"
If redhat-config-xfree86 works graphically then the chipset is not the
problem. make sure you have the right monitor settings (the Advanced tab
should help you here)
if it doesn't work, then be aware that the tool also works as a
command-line app (try redhat-config-xfree86 --help)
