Thank you Rick, I follow what you are saying. Karl in another reply
thinks it is a font problem which will fit into the explanation you gave
regarding user environment. I will check out the fonts used in Evolution
on both machines and I bet I will find a difference, probably caused by
the fact that the laptop was 'upgraded' from 7.1 to 8 whereas the
desktop was a fresh install of 8 to a new HD.
