I concur with your conclusion. It would probably be a good improvement
for gnome-cd to change the way it plays so it's digital all the way
through. However, AFAIK, using the analog cable is the standard way of
doing it. Windows 98 depends/depended on the analog cable and all new
motherboards I've seen with built-in sound, all still have the
connection for it. M$ may have actually came up with an improvement here.
I don't play audio CDs myself, I rip-em and store the originals in a box
in the gararge. :) I never upload them through, honest.
