Hi,
   This is all so foreign to me. The Desktop installation didn't
install any development tools so I cannot compile anything. When I try
the applet called

System Settings -> Install/Remove Applications

it won't let me install the development tools because it says there
are other dependencies that aren't satisfied.

   What's the real world way to get this stuff installed without
pulling my hair out?
