Thanks for your reply, Michael. Yes, as one of Rick Stevens' replies
further on suggests, it sure looks as though I've got a power issue that
is creating my woes. But no, I always shut Linux down the kosher way,
when I can. I was told long ago that it's important to do this more so
for Linux even than for Windows.
