Installing RHEL v3 WS on an Athlon 3400+ <MORE problems>

More problems. After having to perform a text based install (which is NOT
the same as the GUI despite what the manual says), I cannot get any sort of
GUI. The system must still think it is a headless system and hasn't
configured X, there are no nvidia kernel headers (according to the nVidia
driver installation pack) and I'm fast running out of ideas. I can't edit
XF86Config because it isn't there. 

Any ideas on this. If I boot into run level 5 will the system try and
configure X? Do I need to install X again and configure it by hand (a decent
HOWTO would be good, but they all assume that XF86config is present).

Okay, I downclocked my memory to 333MHz (even though it is rated at 400) and
tried again. Everything worked, apart from the graphical installation.
Anaconda doesn't recognise the graphics card (GeForceFX5200) and so doesn't
set the DISPLAY variable when starting up, so I have to use the text install
route.

No major problems with this, except I can't set up the lvm because there is
no'lvm' button on the DiskDruid screen.

I get over this obstacle and select "Everything" on the package menu.

Installation is going great, until, with three minutes of the installation
still remaining, I get a red screen with loads (and I mean bucketfuls) of
text scrolling down it! 

I end up with the following error code:

Kernel Panic: Fatal exception
In interrupt handler - not syncing

code: 03 41 04 3d 3f 42 0f 00 89 41 04 76 19 8b 92 40 03 00 00 2d

Anyone got any ideas? (I'm going to raise this with Red Hat and see what
they say, but I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar
experience.)

Ok, thanks Ed. I checked all the components when we took delivery of the
systems. It is labelled as being PC3200, so I set it at DDR400 in the bios.
I've got a copy of memtest at home, so I'll bring it in when I get chance.

A signal 11 is frequently a memory issue.  Download memcheck86 - a
standalone bootable DOS utility - and give your system a workout.

Is that memory really 400DDR?  If not, don't lie to your BIOS - set the
BIOS to what your hardware is rated for.
