You might also want to check out big brother. There's a free and commerical
version; however I don't think that the licensing costs are for the pro. It's
been around for some time and it works on Unix/Linux, Windows, AS/400, etc.

I haven't used nagios; however below is an excerpt from their site:

"It has been designed to run under the Linux operating system, but works fine
under most *NIX variants as well."

I don't think it will run on windows based O/S's

IMHO - if an application cannot support multiple disparate operating systems,
then it's not a true ESM tool. One of the reasons that ESM tools exist is to
monitor, manage an Enterprises systems... I'm a Tivoli guy so I know something
about the subject.
