on the web, find the IP numbers of the blocked sites, and enter it in a
browser to bypass your blocking attempt.  There are few things more
determined than bright children told they can't do something.

When I say "I am building a router", I mean exactly that. An embedded box
that has functionality similar to D-link, Netsys, etc...

I can implement this myself. I can hunt for accesses to ports 53 (DNS) and
80 (HTTP) and write some filtering code, but I do not really want to
re-invent the wheel.

	Instead of building a router (a good exercise), you can get some
rudimentary blocking done by a number inexpensive SOHO-type routers.  They
will do the things like block a site with xxx or porn or any particular
phrase of characters in the URL.  I know the ones I install professionally
from Multitech Systems do, and I think a lot of Netgear, Linksys, D-link,
etc retail models do as well.

Hi, Michael,

I am building a small router. All I want to do is to be able to enter word
list manually and then use simple string matching. More of "parenting
control" rather that enforcing company-wide policy.

	If you're trying to enforce a company web browsing policy, most URL
filters are worthless.  These are best down with a subscription service.  I
know some of the router manufacturers offer them.  There are thousands of
new domains registered every week, and someone has to research and classify
them (sports, porn, gambling, entertainment, file swapping, etc.).  You
really want to block entire classes of site, not just looking for something
in the web name.

Is theer a package to do web contents filtering? Even a simple URL filtering
would do.

Unfortunately, I can not use "squid". The only software I have found is
called "dansguardian" and it is using squid.

Is there anything else?
