confused by: /etc/apt/sources.list (NO! Completely LOST!!!)

I began with not being able to rpm kaffeine ...
was told I was missing some depends...
another post suggested I check out this URL:

http://rpm.livna.org/

Here I discovered I need to add something with
/etc/apt

For apt, add to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

    * For RH9:

rpm http://rpm.livna.org/ redhat/9/i386 stable
unstable testing
rpm-src http://rpm.livna.org/ redhat/9/i386 stable
unstable testing

Egad... I am really new at this stuff ... how do I add
that info to my /etc directory? (I have never tried
to alter anything ... I am guessing I need to use one
of the editors and save it to that directory.... but
first creat a subdirectory in /etc that is called
/apt... and add the above referenced lines... Right?

And while I am it -- there was also a reference to YUM
-- what is that? (And APT? What is that really?)

Thanks for your patience and your tutoring..

StephenW
