Tape writing software?

Thanks Willem,

I had a look, but it seems that Amanda uses a "holding disk", which is what
I do not have.

I wonder if it is possible to adjust the buffering in tar - it does not
write continuously, so it might be persuaded to wait for a network
connection ...

Look at amanda.
I think it is included with 7.3, if not, it is with later versions of
redhat.
