How to check if mounted trough nfs server is down

Hello Everybody!

 

How to check if mounted through NFS server is freezes or down.

Server mounted to backup directory

When I'm trying to list files on the mounted server process dives me an
error after few minutes.

These few minutes are not acceptable for me. Is there any way to check
quickly if server is down?

ls /mnt/backup

ls: /mnt/backup/: Input/output error
