How to restart X server

Try

 init 3  and then init 5,

or control-alter-backspace

hi,
   I changed resolution and should restart X server for the changes to take
effects.I don't know how to restart X server except rebooting the
computer.Some users have connected to the server,and rebooting will cause
some trouble. 
   How to restart X server without rebooting.
