sun solaris .vs linux

(sorry ryan, i wasn't in pitts!)
one of the main reasons i ask about solaris/linux is that solaris apparently
has some advanced ability to handle distributed/grid applications/jobs.
if solaris 10 essentially allows me to download/use the OS, much like
fedora, and i don't lose anything with regards to building/running apps, i
might have to seriously think about solaris...
i'm considering a grid system of distributed computers tied together via the
internet (similar to seti at home). solaris would appear to be useful in this
regard!!!

Since sun appears to be doing an 'open source' release of solaris 10,
how compatible is that with linux/RH linux?
I was curious as to what different perspectives are regarding what
Solaris offers .vs Linux...
