Can't Play / Rip audio CD with ide-scsi emulation

/dev/cdrom points to /dev/scd0, which is expected, I think.

# ls -lah /dev/cdrom 
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            9 Sep 13 09:11 /dev/cdrom -> 
/dev/scd0

cdrecord can record cd just fine with ide-scsi. Here's the output

# cdrecord -scanbus

..

I tried gnome-cd. I also tried ripping using cdparanoia thru grip, which 
didn't work.
