LVM error: Insufficient allocatable extents (11920) for logicalvolume DATA

I believe you have the command wrong. It's been awhile since I did this
but Im pretty sure the proper command to extend a volume is this :

lvextend -L +12G /dev/<rest of logical volume path>

lvextend -L12G <physical volume) definitely won't work, but lvextend
-L +12G <physical volume path>
may work

What is the command you're trying to use, and what is the output of
vgdisplay?
