problem building perl digest-md5 v2.33 on Ex3.0

Chaps, I'm trying to install the digest-MD5 module on an AS 3./0 server and 
am having a wee problem.

perl Makefile.PL generates a Makefile, but if you look at it,there are bits 
missing, values that have quotes at the beginning but nothing at the end 
etc.

Basically the generated Makefile isn't usable. This is using version 2.33 
of the module

Anybody managed to get it working?
