Problems with new build and up2date

o.k. I can now log back onto the beast and from a shell prompt type in
startx to get to a gui

While this works, no png files are being loaded at all. Every time you
try you get the unable to recognise file format error message
At least I  can keep the system running now

In /etc/inittab, you currently have an entry that looks like this:
id:5:initdefault:

Change the 5 to a 3.  Do not mistype this entry!
