mount version older than the kernel

Hi,
When I boot my linux kernel-2.6.12, I get the following messages, as
in /var/log/messages:
Sep 20 12:50:42 puja-w2s kernel: nfs warning: mount version older than kernel
Sep 20 12:51:17 puja-w2s kernel: portmap: server localhost not
responding, timed out
Sep 20 12:51:17 puja-w2s kernel: RPC: failed to contact portmap (errno -5).
I downloaded rpm for mount and tried installing it. I could not
install the mount package as it gave me the error that GLIB_2.3 is
required.
I rechecked in /lib, my libc.so.6 is a soft link for glibc-2.3.5, then
why is mount rpm not able to recognize glibc.
Can your help?
Thanks and Regards,
Nupur
