Start generating a baseline for system performance

I would like to start generating a baseline for system performance on
some linux servers; things to include would be processor utilization,
memory utilization, I/O stats; I think that package to use would
probably systat, but I'm not very familiar with it; any hints as to how
to use, or if I should be using some different software packages?
Thanks very much.
