This is not really that hard.  Here is a script called pwaging

Which is used for passwd expiry in NIS repositories.  However, you
read the script completely and thoroughly before going for
implementation, and you need some serious changes in NIS maps,
including modifying the yp Makefile.   You also need to run this in
batch mode only via cron, no real time update.  The script doesn't
have a man page but really self explanatory.

It is not straight forward but it works, I know it coz I used it and
was happy with it.

On the other hand, why NIS?  If you have AD authentication, simply
integrate the Linux into AD with LDAP and Kerberos.
