Often there is but it depends on what those packages are checking.
Sometimes it is as simple as fibbing in /etc/redhat-release, sometimes
it is more involved.

I don't it is a question of the os version.  I am missing rhel4 libraries, or have incompatible ones.  I would try to install the missing stuff, but eventually gave up for fearing really messing the system up.
